The GS1 Hong Kong Retail Summit 2025 brought together global leaders, innovators, and policymakers to discuss the future of commerce, where AI, sustainability, and digital transformation converge.
Held in Hong Kong, the event served as a strategic meeting point for decision-makers shaping the next generation of retail.
The forum opened with welcoming remarks by Mr. Roy Ng, Chairman of the GS1 Hong Kong Board, followed by an inspiring address from Ms. Mable Chan, JP, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, HKSAR.
Their shared vision highlighted Hong Kong’s commitment to becoming a hub for smart commerce, sustainable trade, and data-driven retail ecosystems.
From Sustainability to Smart Systems
The first plenary, moderated by Mr. Andy Law (Deloitte China), focused on one of the event’s defining themes: the Digital Product Passport (DPP).
Panelists from Cobalt Fashion, Gold Peak Technology Group, and GS1 Global discussed how traceability, transparency, and circular economy models will redefine supply chains in the coming decade.
Data took center stage with YouGov’s Philippe Chan revealing key insights from regional consumer sentiment studies.
This led into Plenary 2, where GS1 HK Chief Executive Ms. Anna Lin and KPMG’s Anson Bailey presented findings from a 1,500-respondent survey across Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
The results revealed three dominant consumer priorities for 2025:
The CEO Panel, moderated by Anson Bailey (KPMG China), brought together visionary leaders from Cloudpick, Creative Machines, HULA, LocoBike, and GS1 HK.
The discussion explored how AI is driving transformation in logistics, retail operations, and customer engagement, with collaboration emerging as the cornerstone of innovation.
In one of the forum’s most forward-looking sessions, Dr. Toa Charm (GS1 HK & Data and AI Literacy Association) moderated a deep dive into Agentic AI — autonomous systems capable of decision-making and adaptation.
Panelists from HKBN, Prudential, Jebsen & Co., and The Bank of East Asia discussed the balance between autonomy, ethics, and accountability, highlighting how agentic intelligence is already reshaping retail operations and supply chain resilience.
Parallel sessions explored Hong Kong’s expanding digital footprint in global commerce.
Industry leaders from HKTVMall, Tmall Global, Lazada, and JD Worldwide shared strategies to help Hong Kong brands grow internationally, from AI-driven inventory optimisation to unlocking cross-border eCommerce opportunities in Mainland China and Southeast Asia.
The forum also honoured outstanding achievements during the Digital Transformation Awards, celebrating businesses leading the shift toward smarter, more connected retail ecosystems.
The event concluded with the Chairman Club Plenary, a candid discussion on navigating adversity and driving transformation.
Executives from FoodTech AI, Meiriki Japan, Momax Technology, and Uni-China Group reflected on leadership in uncertain times and the role of innovation as both a survival strategy and growth engine.
The GS1 Hong Kong Retail Forum 2025 reaffirmed one clear message:
The future of retail belongs to those who connect intelligence, interoperability, and integrity, transforming every shelf, store, and system into a smarter ecosystem.
